1913, Lymm May Queen Festival
In 1913, the May Queen was on the 'up' with the local newspaper hinting that the event was still recovering after some difficult years. The May Queen that year was Gladys Hawthorne who lived near Moore's Salt Works.
This image shows a postcard of local coal merchant George Walker with the Grace Darling float at Lymm May Queen Festival.
Sadly, George died at the end of the First World War. He was an ambulance driver and had returned to France to collect bodies to go into the war graves cemeteries. He died at the end of June 1919 of septicaemia in a Field hospital in France.
