Bleak House
Bleak House, Higher Lane.
In 1913, it was home to George Welford, a prosperous solicitor, who lived there with his second wife and six children. As members of the Primitive Methodists Congregation, the family played host to an annual garden party where the assembled group ere entertained by, amongst others, the Lymm Glee Singers Society.
Maybe he, or his predecessor, were also a fan of Charles Dickens to have named the house 'Bleak House' which stood facing the top of Grammar School road. It is now demolished.
