Watching the ships at Statham

Photograph showing group of children playing on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal. It was a regular game to sit in the cock boat which was chained to the mooring and ride out the wash caused by the passing ships.  The small rowing boat (cock boat) was used by workmen to cross the canal to the pumping station.
