Presentation of the Distinguished Conduct Medal to Sgt Field.
in 1916, villagers gathered at the Cross to mark the awarding of the distinguished Conduct Medal. second only to the Victoria Cross, to Sergeant Thomas W. Field for his outstanding service in Gallipoli.
In 1939, Tom Field was still living in Lymm at The Square and was described by the National Register taken in that year, as an 'unemployed clerk'.
