Manchester Ship Canal and River Mersey.
Manchester Ship Canal with River Mersey on right taken from Warburton Bridge
This bird's eye view taken from the swinging scaffold used by workmen, gives a general idea of the country traversed by the Canal above the Bridge. A special feature is the dam separating the old course of the Mersey from the new cutting. This dam was afterwards excavated by hand down to the waterline and the bar subsequently removed by blasting and dredging.
