Danebank, June 1919

In 1794, Dane Bank was home to Captain Domville Poole, High Sheriff of Cheshire. When he died in 1795, the property went up for sale.  In the second part of the 19th century, Dane Bank became a residential school for young ladies.

Later it became home to wealthy cotton merchant and at some point Chairman for the Manchester Ship Canal, Mr Alfred Watkin.

In the 1960s, Dane Bank was a hotel. It closed and was put up for sale in 1973. The house, although reduced in size is still there but it is now divided into apartments. Several other houses now also stand in what were once the grounds.
