Bill Todd Collection

William Todd (Bill)  1924-1984

Bill was born in York and raised in Leeds, serving as a motorcycle despatch rider in the army in both Europe and India before returning to England in 1947.  He worked for Vincent HRD motor cycles and then joined BP, being sent out to work in the oil refineries of Iran and Kuwait.  He married Kathleen Holt, of Antrobus during a period of leave from the Middle East in 1957, having previously met in 1952 while she was working at the Associated Ethyl Co Ltd in Northwich where Bill attended a training course for several months.  They lived together in Kuwait from 1957-1960.

They returned to the UK, first to Antrobus until settling in Lymm in 1963, bringing up their three children, Jenny, Helen and William.  Bill worked for Shell at Carrington and then later Vale Royal District Council as Safety Officer.

Bill was a founder member and long serving committee member of Lymm Local History Society and member and former Treasurer of Lymm Liberal Association.  He was very interested in all forms of industrial archaeology and transport – especially trains – and was Treasurer of the North West Branch of the Locomotive Club of Great Britain for 12 years.  He had a great interest in photography and from the late 1960s until his death in 1984, he built an archive of photos documenting the changes happening in the local area.
