The Boat Stage (April 2015)
Original frontage of The Boat Stage, days after it closed in April 2015 - but the beginning of the journey for the site of Lymm Heritage Centre.
When The Royal British Legion on Legh Street, (also known as The Boat Stage) closed, the new owner of the building, Mr Howard Platt, agreed Lymm Heritage Group to be the preferred tenants. This was the most amazing news - as finding an affordable site in a village centre location was always going to have been a major challenge. It also meant that a community based facility would stay within the community whilst enabling the British Legion branch to continue having occasional use of the building.
As a direct result, this offer from just one member of the community, meant the Heritage Centre Supporter's Group could start to build a sustainable vision for the future. An exhibition space to tell the story of Lymm, a focal point for local history education and other wide range initiatives for the benefit of the wider community.
From this, fundraising soon commenced so that the Group would be in a position to take up the offer of the tenancy!
