The fustian exhibition opened May 4th 2019. One of the major highlights is this mazing model fustian cottage created by Lymm Resident, Debbie Tingle
After months of planning and research the Centre was ready to open this exciting new exhibit that tells the story of the harsh trade that dominated village life for the better part of a century. Trawling through censuses, newspaper archives, government commission reports and word of mouth stories from descendants of cutters' families, we have re-created the cutters' home and workplace and given a new insight into the incredibly hard life of the cutter. The youngest in the 1861 census was just 7 years old. He died at age eleven .. of "exposure to cold "
