Children at The Cross with a Yank…
During the war and into the 1960s, the Americans had a base at Burtonwood and there were usually quite a few of them, wandering round the village to the cry of “Got Any Gum Chum”. So it looks like this one took the opportunity to have his photograph taken with a bunch of local youngsters. The boy to the left of the soldier with his arm tucked around him is Tommy Jackson. This is the husband of Muriel Jackson and father of Glenis Sharpe who kindly donated this wonderful photograph to the Lymm Archive.
