Oughtrington Hall
Today, the Hall stands as the core of Lymm High School but has had many owners and users since it was rebuilt in 1810 by Trafford Trafford Esquire. In 1862, it passed like so many other properties, into the hands of George Charnley Dewhurst and served as a home for family members.
The house saw service in both World Wars. In 1914, after its sale to Lord Leverhulme, it was a settlement for Belgian refugees, funded by American motor magnate Henry Ford. In the Second World War, it was home to evacuees from Salford under the guiding hand of owner and author, Charis Frankenburg. In 1946, it was acquired for the Grammar School.
