Alfred Watkin
Mr Alfred Watkin passed away at his home in Lymm in his ninetieth year and was a former Chairman of the Manchester Ship Canal. His family was involved with businesses in Manchester for four generations and where Mr Watkin took control of the firm Absalom Watkin and Son, cloth merchants whilst still in his youth.
Mr Watkin had also been President of The Bankers Institute, Director of Martins Bank, Director of the Manchester local board of the London and Lancashire Insurance Company and Director of Manchester Liners. In 1913, he was High Sheriff of Cheshire.
Sir Edward Watkin, Mr Watkin's Uncle was prominently involved with railway development and his father was Mayor of Manchester in 1873
