Ellen Daniels

Ellen Daniels (nee Hersey) was born 1879 in Pendleton, Salford. 

Ellen with her sister Harriet, moved to Lymm to run the confectioner's and sweet shop at Post Office Place, Lymm. She married a local lad, Harry Daniels from Mill Lane.  Harry Daniels worked at Burgons in Lymm Village delivering groceries arround the area with their horse drawn van. Ellen and Harry then moved to Orchard Road but when Harry left Burgons he worked at the Salt Works, saving until he had enough money to buy his own taxi / wedding car.  

They later moved to Sandy Lane where there was a large garage and set up their own business.  They had two childred:

Gladys Daniels (b 1916)

Bertram Daniels ( b1919)

In 1939, Harry gave up his taxi business and volunteered to be a fireman. He was sent to London during the Blitz and then to Bournemouth. In 1945 he became a civilian fireman and driver for the Royal Navy at Burtonwood and where he stayed until his retirement in 1956. (See LH06687)

[In 1942, Gladys Daniels married Thomas Lloyd (b 1918), son of Ernest Lloyd of Crouchley Lane. The Lloyd family had worked for the Bridgewater Canal, father to son, since 1750 and after whom Lloyd Bridge is named at Oughtrington].

Ellen died in 1965, Lymm.
