Bertram and Gladys were the children of Harry and Ellen Daniels. In 1942, Gladys married Thomas Lloyd, son of Ernest Lloyd of Crouchley Lane. The Lloyd family had worked for the Bridgewater Canal, father to son since 1750 and after whom Lloyd Bridge in Oughtrington is named.
