Lymm Signal Box

Lymm signal box looking eastwards along what is now the Trans Pennine Trail. This photograph would have been taken in the 1980s.  Prior to the installation of the barriers, which were operated from a switch inside the box, there were large white wooded gates that would normally sit across the tracks but could be rotated to block the road from a large manually operated ship-like wheel, about 1 m in diameter.  This was located just behind the two right-hand windows, under the red sign, that operated the gates through a pully system.
