Nursing Memorial at The National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire

Photograph of the whole Nursing Memorial commemorating 1,300 people, including Sister Mary Lea at the The National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire

This poignant sculpture was created by sculptor Georgie Welch and engraved by Nick Johnson. It depicts a sandstone globe of the world held up and cupped within a bronze pair of caring hands.

The surface of the globe features relief maps and is etched with the names of nearly 1,300 nurses (both trained professionals and VAD volunteers) who died during or as a direct result of wartime service.
