Thelwall Navvy Village

The Manchester Ship Canal was one of the greatest engineering feats of the 19th Century. It passes through the parish of Lymm and whilst there is no dock it has nevertheless had a major influence on the village.  The Navvies arrival in the 1880s led to the  building of temporary shanties to accommodate and help their integration into village life.
