Mickley Hill Water Tower and Bollin Point

Before the Ship Canal was cut there was a slight eminence in the Lymm meadows surrounded by tall trees called Mickley Hill.

It was near the junction of the Bollin and the Mersey but was gradually washed away by the Mersey floods, so that when the canal was cut there was little of the ancient landmark left. Tradition says that a battle was fought there during the time of the civil war, many old muskets and other warlike implements have from time to time been found there.
