Ice House, Wildersmoor
Steps under this slab lead to a barrel-vaulted subterranean chamber circa 3.5 metres x 2 metres used as an ice house. It would have been used to store ice throughout the year, before the invention of the refrigerator. Many consisted of underground chambers, usually man-made and close to natural sources of water
