Heritage Category: Scheduled Monument

The cockpits are situated within the grounds of the Hall, 125 metres west of the building. Cockfighting was a popular sport at all levels of society during the 17th and 18th centuries, and examples of cockpits have been recorded from the 12th century until the sport was made illegal in 1849.
