Work begins ...
Work had already been taking place on Longbutt Lane to cut back overgrown vegetation, removal of the gate to allow access via Orchard Road during these roadworks.
Pepper Street was temprarily asphalted before layinbg all the reclaimed setts. This meant that Pepper Street was then fully closed to all through traffic until all the setts had been laid.
Access, governed by lights at this time was via Orchard Avenue, Longbutt Lane and Scholars Green with access to the car park maintained as much as possible during this work. Some of the excavated setts had been left at the side of the Village Hall for people to collect as a souvenir ... with many now taking pride of place in people's gardens, myself included. They were very, very heavy !!!
