Su Williams
ORIGINATOR and Co-Founder of the project, inspirer, supporter and former Trustee.
Finding an affordable site in a village centre location had always been a major challenge for Su's dream - Lymm's very own Heritage Centre! However, by February 2016, conversion of the former Royal British Legion Club on Legh Street received approval from Warrington Planning Committee. The plans had been submitted by the new owner, Mr Howard Platt, who also personally funded all refurbishments for this new and exciting project. Both Su and her husband Alan, personally acknowledged how hugely grateful they were to Howard and for his intervention, vision and generosity.
Resulting from this one offer from just one member of the community, enabled the Group to start building their sustainable plans for the future. Initial contact, which had been established with the Heritage Lottery Fund, also allowed the group formulate its approach for major design funding and installation of core exhibitions. An exhibition space that would tell the story of Lymm, a focal point for local history education for schools, whilst engaging other wide-range initiatives for the benefit of the wider community.
Also, big CONGRATULATIONS to Su on her MBE (2019). Everyone so pleased to hear the good news in recognition of her tireless work within the community. This photograph was taken outside the Artisan Market at the Youth and Community Centre, yet another great initiative Su also supports.
